The reports from The Metro have claimed that the Gunners are considering a move for the Italian striker Mattia Destro from AS Roma. Gunners Chief Arsene Wenger looks set to up his pursuit of a new centre-forward in the coming weeks, with injuries to Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner having left him short of options in the role.
The Frenchman is said to be keen to lure a top class and experienced player to North London to become the focal point of his attack – something he tried to do over the summer with moves for Luis Suarez – but he is aware that doing so mid-way through the season may be difficult.
The 22-year-old Italian is widely thought of as one of Serie A’s top emerging talents, but has struggled to force his way into Roma’s first-team this term. Destro is currently in competition with the iconic Francesco Totti and the in-form ex-Arsenal ace Gervinho for a starting berth, which has limited him to just four appearances.
Arsene Wenger is thought to be looking for a loan move. Possibly because the availability of the long term strikers in the winter window is less or equal to none. Hence he is looking forward to a bumper striker signing in the coming Summer transfer window.
Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata has been heavily linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium as well, but it is understood that Wenger is also watching Destro.
