Arsenal striker Oliver Giroud has admitted that he is Didier Deschamps’ #2 choice striker behind Karim Benzema.

Benzema is France’ main striker and Giroud accepts that Bezema’s spot is set for him.

However, Giroud believes that the move from Montpellier to Arsenal is helping him and it will make him better which would eventually make him replace Benzema as the #1 strker for France.

“I am a second option behind Karim Benzema”, Giroud told a French newspaper.

“I do not lack ambition, but I am realistic”, he continued.

“I know there is a hierarchy in the France team.”

Giroud faces competition from Theo Walcott now as he has become a centre-forward.

“Obviously you prefer to always be in the starting line-up. I thrive at a big club like Arsenal, win my place and it will allow me to have more status with the national team and move on a little more.

“Now I want to respond when I am called upon.”

France will face Germany tomorrow and Giroud would like to contribute to his national side.

Giroud has scored 14 goals for Arsenal till now in the Barclays Premier League but he has only scored 2 goals for France of 14 international appearances.
